The Mayo School of Health Sciences Child Life Internship prepares individuals for professional practice in hospitals and clinics.  Through your patient care responsibilities and clinical experiences, the Child Life Internship will enable you to:

  • Work closely with experienced and skilled child life staff who will give you personal, one-on-one attention as you develop your own competence and style.
  • Work with Mayo Clinic nurses, child life specialists, physicians, social workers, chaplains and other allied health professionals in an atmosphere of respect for each professional's role.
  • Serve a large, diverse patient population with common and uncommon medical conditions.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship with patients who have diverse needs and background
  • Function as a dynamic member of the patient care team
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Manage and organize time
  • Practice as an entry-level specialist

Grading or Evaluation
Mayo School of Health Sciences uses student evaluative tools that include:

  • Demonstration of skills
  • Self-assessment
  • Midterm and final evaluations based on the child life competencies established by the Child Life Council.
  • Immediate and ongoing feedback

Our system of evaluation provides students and faculty with a comprehensive look at individual performance.
