Vascular Interventional Radiologic Technology Internship (Florida)
Mayo School of Health Sciences at Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida, offers an eight-month Vascular Interventional Radiologic Technology Internship designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of postgraduate radiography students.
Interns receive technological training in thoracic, visceral, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, neurologic, and peripheral diagnosis and intervention for vascular and nonvascular systems.
At Mayo Clinic's campus in Florida, the Vascular Interventional Radiologic Technology Internship aspires to prepare individuals for a career in vascular interventional radiography by providing a high-quality curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities, a diverse patient population and a favorable faculty-to-student ratio, all in an environment supporting the service values of Mayo Clinic.
By the end of the program, students will have:
- Exposure to anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and general medical disorders commonly managed utilizing vascular-interventional radiologic sciences in Interventional Radiology
- Acquired knowledge of the neurologic, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, peripheral, and thoracic vascular and related systems
- Acquired knowledge of the interventions associated with the neurologic, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, peripheral, and thoracic vascular and related systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of equipment and instrumentation
- Demonstrated knowledge of contrast administration, pharmacology and IV therapy
- Demonstrated knowledge of asepsis and sterile technique
- Demonstrated knowledge of emergency care and cardiac life support
- Demonstrated sufficient skills to fulfill the standards of the Interventional Radiology department
- Demonstrated the ability to perform routine equipment and procedural tasks common to the Interventional Radiology department
- Demonstrated competency in patient communication, assessment and monitoring

- Demonstrate professional characteristics of the clinical role, responsibility and institutional protocols of a dependent care practitioner in an interventional radiology setting
- Demonstrate sensitivity with respect to cultural diversity and effectively apply the principles of a caring service environment within Mayo Clinic where the individual differences of our patients are valued without bias

During the Vascular Interventional Radiologic Technology Internship, you train primarily in the Interventional Radiology section with short rotations to the Vascular Surgery department.
Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida, is a comprehensive medical facility providing advanced programs in education and research that support the highest quality patient care. Campus activity is conducted in the Mayo Clinic Hospital and the interconnected Davis, Mayo and Cannaday buildings.
The ambulatory facilities provide clinical services ranging from primary to specialty care and advanced procedures. Mayo Clinic Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient services, including surgical and medical intensive care units, specialized solid-organ transplant units, and advanced cardiac and neurosurgery facilities.
Graduates are eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) vascular-interventional (VI) registry, which provides graduates with nationally recognized credentials to practice vascular interventional radiology. Individual states may have other requirements.
The hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, plus a maximum of five on-call training weekends.
Each year, Mayo School of Health Sciences admits two students to its Vascular Interventional Radiologic Technology Internship.
