Application Process

Hospital/Inpatient Positions
Up to eight candidates are selected each year for the Mayo School of Health Sciences' Pharmacy Internship Hospital/Inpatient Program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester on a competitive basis.

Clinic/Outpatient Positions
Up to five candidates are selected each year for the Mayo School of Health Sciences' Pharmacy Internship Clinic/Outpatient program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester on a competitive basis.

The program usually begins in mid to late May.

How to Apply
Your application and all supporting documentation must be received by February 15 of the year you wish to begin the internship.

Step 1: Request a copy of your official transcript (including both pre-pharmacy and pharmacy programs) from your college(s) be mailed to the following address:

Step 2: Mail in one envelope your curriculum vitae and letter of intent to the same address as step 1. The letter of intent should discuss your reason(s) for pursuing an internship at Mayo Clinic and your 5-year professional career plan. Your statement should be at least 400 words but no more than 1000 words in length. You must specify in your letter of intent if you would like to be considered a candidate for the hospital/inpatient internship, clinic/outpatient internship, or either program. Failure to specify which program(s) you are applying to may result in withdrawal of consideration.

Step 3: Complete the Apply Yourself Application for Admission. The application cycle for the upcoming summer opens November 1. If you have used the Apply Yourself online program in the past, you must create a new login and password. After you create a login and sign-in to the Apply Yourself tool, please select Application for Admission, noting the following:

    • Above Mayo Campus select Rochester
    • Above Program Type select Pharmacy Internship
    • Above Program Name select Internship
    • Do not include information about your high school.
    • Include information about your pre-pharmacy and pharmacy programs.
    • Do not complete the sections titled Standardized Testing and Essay Questions
    • Under Recommendations, enter the information needed to provide three letters of recommendation. One letter of recommendation should come from a pharmacy faculty member. The second letter may be from another faculty member or a supervisor at your place of employment. The third letter of recommendation may be from a co-worker, another faculty member or another individual of your choosing.

      Use of the online Apply Yourself program for letters of recommendation is encouraged. For those references who wish to submit a letter of recommendation on paper, please have these mailed in a sealed envelope to the same address listed in step 1.

Step 4: Final candidates will be contacted by telephone for a short interview.

Step 5: Appointments are made by March 25. Your reply is expected within one week.
