Pathologists' Assistant Internship (Minnesota)

Program description

Mayo School of Health Sciences offers a two-month Pathologists' Assistant Internship at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota. The internship provides students a clinical rotation site with primary emphasis on autopsy.

While national autopsy rates have declined, Mayo Clinic averages more than 500 forensic and hospital autopsy cases each year at its Rochester campus. Students participate in evisceration, prosection, slide review and written documentation of autopsy findings.

Pathologists' assistant interns also rotate through Mayo Clinic's unique frozen section labs at the Saint Marys campus and Methodist campus of Mayo Clinic Hospital — Rochester. Interns are exposed to the gross and microscopic examination of complex surgical specimens. Students also spend time in the Hilton Gross Cutting Laboratory, where they will handle cardiovascular and liver explant specimens.
