Admissions

Prerequisites

For admission to the Mayo School of Health Sciences Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) Postgraduate Degree Program, you must have:

  • A current valid Minnesota registered nurse (R.N.) license upon enrollment
  • Current certification as a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) from the National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists upon enrollment
  • Received a master's degree in nurse anesthesia from an accredited institution
  • Current employment by Mayo Clinic as a nurse anesthetist or be a graduate of the Mayo School of Health Sciences Master of Nurse Anesthesia Program
  • Essay responses (questions are posted annually)
  • Demonstrated ability in no fewer than 30 prerequisite basic- or advanced-science semester credits
  • Completed undergraduate or graduate courses in:
    • Anatomy
    • Chemistry (organic preferred but not required)
    • Physiology

Nurse anesthesia applicants initially are screened on their:

  • Overall academic performance
  • Demonstrated ability in science courses
  • Personal statement
  • References — two specific references required (CRNA supervisor and anesthesiologist); Mayo employees who are non-Mayo graduates also require an educational reference from their respective nurse anesthesia program
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores

Transfer credit

Transfer credits are not accepted.
