The Molecular Genetics Internship prepares individuals for professional practice in molecular genetics. During the internship, learning experiences allow students to perform:

  • DNA purification and extraction methods
  • Southern blot analysis
  • Polymerase chain reactions (PCR)
  • Other specialized techniques for diagnosing inherited (genetic) and acquired disorders

Students complete hands-on rotations to learn about specific assays and techniques.

Grading or evaluation

Mayo School of Health Sciences uses evaluative tools that include:

  • Written examinations
  • Demonstration of skills
  • Self-assessment exercises
  • Faculty reviews
