Program description

Students enrolled in a Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM)-accredited health information management (HIM) program at an affiliated college or university have the option to complete their clinical rotation at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.

Mayo School of Health Sciences coordinates the clinical training experience for students from affiliated schools. The length of the program is flexible and depends on the affiliated institution's requirements.

Facilities

Mayo Clinic in Arizona has two campuses. On the Mayo Clinic campus in Phoenix is the state-of-the-art Mayo Clinic Hospital, the first hospital entirely designed and built by Mayo Clinic. It has been recognized several times by Phoenix magazine as the "Best Hospital in Phoenix."

The Mayo Clinic campus in Scottsdale is centered around a beautiful, five-story outpatient clinic. This modern facility contains extensive exam rooms, an outpatient surgery center equipped for general anesthesia, a full-service laboratory, pharmacy, patient education library, endoscopy suite, and a 188-seat auditorium for patient, staff and student education programs. Services in numerous medical and surgical disciplines are provided, including outstanding programs in cancer treatment and organ transplantation.

Graduation and certification

Program graduates are eligible to take the national examination to become either a registered health information technician (associate degree) or a registered health information administrator (bachelor's degree).

Class size

Each year, the Health Information Management Internship at Mayo School of Health Sciences admits one student for the fall semester to complete a clinical rotation at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. This ensures you receive close one-on-one instruction and a comprehensive educational experience.
