Health Information Management Internship Program (Arizona)

Program description

Students enrolled in a Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics & Information Management Education (CAHIIM)-accredited Health Information Management (HIM) program at an affiliated college or university have the option to complete their clinical rotation at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.

Mayo School of Health Sciences (MSHS) coordinates the clinical training experience for students from affiliated schools. The length of the program is flexible and depends on the affiliated institution’s requirements.

Accreditation

Your college or university maintains accreditation for its HIM program and can provide more information on program accreditation. Mayo Foundation is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission.

Facilities

Mayo Clinic in Arizona has two campuses. On the Phoenix campus is the state-of-the-art Mayo Clinic Hospital, the first hospital entirely designed and built by Mayo. It has been recognized several times by Phoenix magazine as "the Best Hospital in Phoenix."

The Scottsdale campus is centered around a beautiful, five-story outpatient clinic. This modern facility contains extensive exam rooms, an outpatient surgery center equipped for general anesthesia, a full-service laboratory, pharmacy, patient education library, endoscopy suite, and a 188-seat auditorium for patient, staff and student education programs. Services in numerous medical and surgical disciplines are provided, including outstanding programs in cancer treatment and organ transplantation.

Graduation and certification

Program graduates are eligible to take the national examination to become either a Registered Health Information Technician (associate degree) or Registered Health Information Administrator (bachelor’s degree).

Hours will vary based on the rotation requirements of your college or university.

Class size

Each year, the HIM Program at Mayo School of Health Sciences admits up to three students to complete their clinical rotation at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. This ensures you will receive close one-on-one instruction and a comprehensive educational experience.
