Genetic Counseling Laboratory Internship (Minnesota)
Mayo School of Health Sciences (MSHS) offers a 2-week Genetic Counseling Laboratory Internship at Mayo Clinic Rochester. The program gives students who are currently enrolled in a master's degree genetic counseling program direct exposure to the genetic counseling role in clinical genetic laboratories.
The internship will include experiences in cytogenetics, molecular genetics, and biochemical genetics with a primary experience in one of these areas.
Air travel and housing accommodations are provided to students for the duration of the program. Food and local transportation are the student's responsibility.
The goal of the Genetic Counseling Laboratory Internship is to provide genetic counseling students the opportunity to obtain knowledge and experience in the field of genetic testing and laboratory genetic counseling, by working directly with genetic counselors employed in a genetic laboratory.
MSHS will initiate a legal contract/affiliation agreement with the student's degree-granting institution if one is not already in place. Permanent or ad hoc affiliations with programs may be attained as desired per the American Board of Genetic Counseling guidelines.
