Genetic Counseling Internship (Florida)

Program Description
Mayo School of Health Sciences (MSHS) offers a 8- to 10-week Genetic Counseling Internship at Mayo Clinic Florida. The program provides experience working with a genetic counselor that will enable students to complete a rotation requirement of their respective genetic counseling graduate school training program. Students will work one-on-one with a genetic counselor and be able to initially observe multiple types of genetic counseling cases and later actively participate in the genetic counseling session. In addition, students enrolled in the internship program will be able to work with a genetic counselor to obtain the comprehensive clinical knowledge and skills needed to be a genetic counselor.

Program Goals
Students who complete the internship program in genetic counseling will obtain further clinical training for the completion of their Master of Science degree in this discipline. In addition, students may obtain logbook cases which are required to graduate from each accredited genetic counseling masters program.

Accreditation
For students currently enrolled in an accredited genetic counseling training program, Mayo Clinic will work with your genetic counseling program to become an approved clinical rotation site.

Mayo Foundation is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission.

Facilities
Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., is a comprehensive medical facility providing advanced programs in education and research, which support the highest-quality patient care. Campus activity is conducted around the Mayo Clinic hospital and interconnected Davis, Mayo and Cannaday buildings.

The ambulatory facilities provide clinical services ranging from primary to specialty care and advanced procedures. Mayo Clinic hospital provides comprehensive inpatient services, including surgical and medical intensive care units, specialized solid-organ transplant units, and advanced cardiac and neurosurgery facilities.

Hours
During your internship, your learning schedule will occur Monday through Friday. Hours will vary with rotation.

Class Size
Each rotation, Mayo School of Health Sciences admits one to two students to its Genetic Counseling Internship Program at Mayo Clinic Florida. This ensures you will receive a comprehensive educational experience.
