Back to topHow long is the program?
The Dietetics Internship is eight months long. It is fully accredited by the Accreditation council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
Back to topWhat are the program's goals?
The Mayo Clinic Dietetics Internship prepares entry-level generalist dietitians. Our program is approximately one-third food services, one-third clinical and one-third community outreach.
Back to topWhat are the admission prerequisites?
Qualified applicants must have:
- A bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in nutrition and food science or dietetics which meets the ACEND approved course work requirements.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants with lower GPAs are not considered in the selection process.
- Proof of results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam or equivalent examination.

For the January match, the deadline is September 25, 2012. This class accepts three interns and begins January 2013.
For the July match, the deadline is February 15, 2013. This class accepts three interns and begins July 2013.
Early applications are recommended.
Back to topHow are applications processed?
The program is using the online centralized internship application, Dietetic Internship Centralized Application Services (DICAS), available after July 11, 2012 for the Fall 2012 Match. The online application must be completed for our program by 11:59 p.m. CST on September 25, 2012. The fee to use DICAS is $40 for the first application submitted and $20 for each additional application. For more information email DICASinfo@DICAS.org.
An additional $25 nonrefundable application fee must be received by September 25, 2012. Send check, payable to Mayo Clinic, with applicant's name and DICAS number in the memo area to:

The selection committee requests telephone interviews with the top candidates. Mayo Clinic will contact the selected candidates for interviews.

Tuition of $7,000 is payable upon commencement of the internship.

Housing, transportation and some meals are the student's responsibility.
Approximate cost of living expenses:
- Rent $600-$800/month
- Food $250/month
- Personal and miscellaneous $250/month
- Transportation $225/month
- Professional liability insurance $50
- Lab coats $25
- Personal car with liability insurance is required to travel to sites
- Interns must provide their own health insurance
- Elective costs, if out of the Jacksonville area
Back to topWhat is recommended for area transportation?
Jacksonville is the largest city in the United States in terms of land mass. The city of Jacksonville includes all of Duval County. Interns selected into this program must have an automobile. We have intern rotation sites all over the city and Jacksonville's public transportation is inadequate to meet those needs.
