Dietetic Internship (Arizona)

Program description

Mayo School of Health Sciences offers a Dietetic Internship at Mayo Clinic's campus in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona, that provides comprehensive clinical knowledge and skills to enable practitioners to deliver complete nutrition services.

Mayo School of Health Sciences partners with many distance-learning dietetic programs to offer internships in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Food service rotations also are available.

The length of the internship depends upon the requirements of the academic affiliate. The clinical and food service internships are arranged by the academic fieldwork coordinator from the student's college or university. The internships at Mayo Clinic provide supervised practice to prepare the student with the skills and competencies necessary to practice as an entry-level generalist dietitian or diet technician.

Students from all accredited educational facilities are eligible for these internships and are considered individually.

Program goals

  • Prepare competent entry-level dietetics practitioners
  • Provide dietetic professionals to meet the needs of the Southwest and beyond
  • Encourage students to recognize the need to continue their education and participate in the American Dietetic Association and other professional organizations

The education sites for the Dietetic Internship are Mayo Clinic's campus in Scottsdale (the outpatient care setting) and Mayo Clinic's campus in Phoenix (Mayo Clinic Hospital, the inpatient care setting). The hospital provides inpatient care to support the approximately 65 medical and surgical specialties and programs of Mayo Clinic. Full emergency room services and urgent care also are provided at Mayo Clinic Hospital.

The Food and Nutrition Services Department exists to serve nutritious and appetizing food, attractively presented, to patients and their families, visitors, and staff of Mayo Clinic Hospital. It also provides inpatient and outpatient clinical nutrition support.
