Prerequisites

To be eligible to begin the Electroneurodiagnostic Clinical Rotation at Mayo Clinic, you must:

  • Be enrolled in the Electroneurodiagnostic Technology program at GateWay Community College
  • Have successfully completed the required preprofessional and professional college coursework

Technical standards

In addition to general standards, electroneurodiagnostic technologists must be able to perform these technical job functions:

  • Stand for more than 50 percent of work hours
  • Lift more than 25 pounds occasionally
  • Bend or stoop and kneel or squat occasionally
  • Have adequate use of both hands
  • Hear and see clearly
  • Distinguish colors
  • Work irregular hours (evenings, nights and rotating shifts)
  • Work compassionately with patients
  • Communicate effectively with patients and staff
  • Work with patients who may have communicable diseases
  • Be exposed to the chemicals acetone and collodion

Hours and other working conditions of electroneurodiagnostic technologists vary, according to the size and type of employment setting. In large hospitals or independent laboratories that operate continuously, personnel usually work the day, evening or night shift and may work weekends and holidays.
