Program Description
Mayo School of Health Sciences (MSHS) offers a one-year Audiology Externship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. This program provides in-depth clinical knowledge and skills that enable practitioners to provide quality comprehensive audiology care.
Education will focus on providing patient care and state-of-the-art
clinical audiology services to patients of all ages. In-depth clinical
experiences are provided to develop a well-rounded, competent audiologist,
including:
- Pediatric and adult audiologic evaluations
- Posturography
- Videonystagmography
- Rotational chair testing
- Canalith repositioning procedures
- Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials
- Auditory evoked potentials
- Otoacoustic emissions
- Hearing aid selection, fitting and dispensing.
- Adult aural rehabilitation programs
- Cochlear implant evaluation and programming
- Newborn hearing screening
- Tinnitus counseling
- Equipment calibration
- Opportunity for clinical research

Facilities
The Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, Minn., comprises an extensive outpatient complex, Saint Marys Hospital and Rochester Methodist Hospital, and substantial research and education facilities. This Mayo site is among the largest, most advanced medical centers in the world.
Mayo Clinic's Division of Audiology employs 21 audiologists, and eight audiology assistants. Audiology care providers see patients of all ages with hearing and balance problems. Each year audiologists at Mayo perform more than 35,000 procedures and tests. Audiology is a part of the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) practice.
Graduation and Certification
Upon successful completion of the Audiology Externship, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Mayo School of Health Sciences, College of Medicine.
Hours
For the majority of the externship, you will be in the clinic setting Monday through Friday, and rotate occasional weekends for newborn hearing screening.
Class Size
Each year, Mayo School of Health Sciences admits one student to its Audiology Externship Program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. This ensures that you will receive a comprehensive educational experience with close one-on-one instruction. |
