Program Description
The Nephrology Transplant Fellowship Program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, provides outstanding supplementary clinical and research experience in the field of kidney and pancreas transplantation. As a nephrology transplant fellow, you will receive the education and experience necessary to become highly proficient in caring for kidney and pancreas transplant patients.
Specific educational goals are to provide clinical experience and opportunities in:
- Preparing for a successful career in nephrology, with an emphasis on kidney and/or pancreas transplantation
- Understanding and applying innovative, multidisciplinary living and deceased donor kidney transplantation protocols
- Achieving eligibility for United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) certification in kidney and pancreas transplantation
- Extending your academic and research experience in the area of organ transplantation
Accreditation
Mayo Clinic's nephrology fellowship in transplant medicine is jointly accredited by the American Society of Transplantation and the American Society of Nephrology through the Adult Renal Transplant Fellowship Training Accreditation Program Committee.
The American Board of Internal Medicine also supports the fellowship as a non-standard (“N+1”) program for foreign medical graduates on J1 exchange visas.
Certification
Successful completion of the fellowship should ensure that you meet criteria set forth by UNOS for designation as a renal transplant physician and a pancreas transplant physician.
Program History
This fellowship program has been in existence at Mayo Clinic since 2000. One fellowship position is available each academic year.
