Program Description
The primary goal of this fellowship is to provide you with a thorough understanding of the role of cardiac transplantation for the treatment of end-stage congestive heart failure, the pathophysiology of congestive heart failure and the natural history of this syndrome. As a cardiology transplant fellow at Mayo Clinic, you will learn the currently accepted treatment strategies for both acute and chronic heart failure and new therapies for the treatment of heart failure.

You will also develop an understanding of both the indications and contraindications for cardiac transplantation, selection criteria for transplantation and the management of candidates awaiting transplantation in addition to gaining experience in the use of LVAD ( left ventricular assist device) technology.

Finally, you will obtain experience in the perioperative care after cardiac transplantation, including knowledge of various immunosuppressive regimens, early and late complications after cardiac transplantation and their management.
