Program Description
The Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship
is for gynecologists or urologists who wish to specialize in pelvic
floor reconstructive surgery. The three year program provides you
with a broad range of pelvic surgery experiences and a multispecialty
approach to urinary incontinence and pelvic disorders. Training
emphasizes evaluation, treatment and continuing care with state-of-the-art
technology.
This fellowship is structured to satisfy the requirements of the
American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Urogynecology
Society for urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery fellowship
programs. The fellowship is accredited by the American Board of
Obstetrics and Gynecology. The fellowship includes two clinical
years and one basic research year.
Clinical Training
The clinical portion of the fellowship provides you with extensive
surgical and diagnostic training. You will gain hands-on experience
diagnosing and managing patients with urinary stress incontinence
and pelvic relaxation. You will perform many complex benign gynecological
surgical procedures. You also will gain intestinal and urinary tract
surgical experience as you manage patients with extensive endometriosis
and gynecologic oncology processes.

The typical rotation schedule includes:

Research Training
You will conduct clinical research projects with the help of faculty.
You will participate in laboratory-based research.
Didactic Training
Clinical conferences, seminars, small discussion groups, journal
clubs and one-on-one instruction are integral parts of the program.
In addition, you will take classes in research design, statistics,
pelvic anatomy, urodynamics and the use of computers.
Appointments and Applications
One position is available each year on a competitive basis. Applicants
must have graduated from an accredited residency program in the
United States, previous research experience, previous surgical experience,
and aspirations for a career in academic medicine. Applications
for this fellowship, which begins in July, should be completed by
April of the previous calendar year.
