Program Description
The five-year General Surgery Residency Program at Mayo Clinic Arizona offers training in advanced surgical techniques with an emphasis on evidence-based surgery. Your training will include:

  • A “mentoring and mastery” model of education delivered through personal, ongoing patient-based teaching
  • Provided directly from faculty surgeons supported by a robust, dynamic electronic core curriculum
  • Daily didactic programs
  • Acquisition of the judgment and skill sets to become a leader in general or subspecialty surgery.

Accreditation
The General Surgery Residency is accredited by the ACGME Residency Review Committee for Surgery.

Certifications
After successfully completing the General Surgery Residency, you will be recommended to sit for the American Board of Surgery Qualifying Examination.

Program History
The General Surgery Residency at Mayo Clinic Arizona was established in 1995 and has graduated 16 residents to date.  Three categorical residents will complete the program on an annual basis.
