David Farley, M.D.Mayo Clinic’s General Surgery Residency Program is heralded for its preceptorship concept, which means residents have the unique opportunity of working one-on-one with some of the world’s best surgeons.

Over 50,000 operations a year are performed here each year, with a voluminous range of cases. Teamwork is a hallmark at Mayo Clinic, along with access to specialists in virtually any area of medicine. The lifestyle and work-life balance is exceptional, offering you an opportune environment in which to cultivate both your professional and personal interests.

We offer numerous educational opportunities with fellowship programs, rotations in every specialty, and an unmatched menu of didactic experiences. We hold weekly mock oral exams and simulation center activities. In addition, cadaver and pig labs are held frequently throughout the year.

You are invited to read what our current residents are saying about our program in the ‘Resident Profile’ section of this site. By hearing what those who have experienced our program have to say, you will gain an appreciation of the depth and breadth of our training program.

I welcome any questions you have about our unique residency program and hope you will consider Mayo Clinic for your surgery training.
