The Division of Gastroenterologic and General Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., has one of the largest and most experienced groups of gastroenterologic and general surgeons in the United States. Gastrointestinal Surgeons provide comprehensive diagnosis, management and follow-up of surgical disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and allied disorders.

The 11 staff surgeons perform more than 4,500 operations annually and have a combined 180 years of experience.  Our GI Surgery division has led the country as the Number 1 Group in Gastroenterology (and GI Surgery) in “US World and News Report” for several years.

Advisers
You will be assigned a faculty adviser who can provide comprehensive educational advice and personal support. The adviser also serves as a contact point, introducing you and your family to Mayo Clinic.

Visiting Professors
Many prominent professors and other visiting surgeons visit Mayo Clinic each year to  present their work during morning and afternoon lectures and interact with the Mayo staff in the operating room.  Residents and fellows are encouraged to take full advantage of these opportunities to interact with experts from other academic centers and are relieved from clinical assignments to do so.
