Positions
There is one position available in Mayo Clinic's Gastrointestinal Surgical Scholar Fellowship Program each year on a competitive basis.
How to Apply
To apply to the Gastrointestinal Surgical Scholar Fellowship program in Rochester, you must register with the Fellowship Council for application and match.
Applications are due by September 1 each year. The program begins July 1 of the following year.
Interviews are mandatory and arranged on an individual basis and will be held in late September through October.
Required Application Materials:
- Curriculum vitae. Describe your activities with professional societies, publications, and any other relevant information about your education or experience.
- Personal statement of professional goals.
- Copy of graduate school and or medical/dental school diploma.
Postdoctoral fellowship applications should also include:
- Official transcripts. Upload a scanned copy of official transcripts from each university, graduate school, and/or medical school you attended. Provide certified or notarized English translations of documents written in a language other than English.
- Three letters of recommendation from faculty members, including your thesis advisor, who are thoroughly familiar with your work. Each letter should include the writer’s opinion of your professional, academic, and personal qualifications, as well as his/her opinion on your potential for success in the field for which you are applying. Other residency and fellowship program applications should also include:
- Dean’s letter. Ask your medical/dental school to send a letter directly to MSGME.
- Official transcripts. Upload a scanned copy of official transcripts from each graduate school, dental school, and/or medical school you attended. Provide certified or notarized English translations of documents written in a language other than English.
- Official test transcripts for all applicable examinations (USMLE, LMCC, COMLEX, NBOME, FMGEMS, FLEX, or NBME).
- Valid ECFMG certificate. Required if you graduated from a medical school outside the United States or Canada.
- Two or three original letters of recommendation, as specified in your program description, from physicians or faculty members who are thoroughly familiar with your work. If you have had prior residency training, ask your program director for a letter of recommendation. Each letter should include the writer’s opinion of your professional, academic, and personal qualifications, as well as his/her opinion of your potential success in the field for which you are applying. PLEASE NOTE: You may apply to only one categorical residency or fellowship program. However, you may apply to the same categorical residency or fellowship program at more than one Mayo Clinic campus. For example, you may apply to the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.
