Clinical Training
You will participate in all aspects of patient care. Rotations with surgeons performing bariatric, gastrointestinal, endocrine, colorectal and broad-based general surgery will be provided.
Didactic Training
You also will participate in all conferences within the Department of Surgery, including Surgical Grand Rounds, Morbidity and Mortality Conference, and the Medical/Surgical Conference.
The training program includes the monthly meeting of the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery. You will have the opportunity to train residents in both animate and inanimate settings.
Research Training
You will be expected to participate in clinical research studies, either prospective or retrospective in nature. In addition, you may pursue collaboration with basic sciences at other medical facilities in the area.
Publications and Presentations
It is anticipated that each of the prospective studies developed will generate results and information suitable for publication in a major surgery journal. Two additional critical manuscripts are expected. These may include a major subject review, case report (limited to one only) or a retrospective review.
Teaching Opportunities
Opportunities are available for teaching rotating surgery fellows and residents and fellows during conferences.
Moonlighting Policy
Moonlighting is not permitted during this fellowship.
Evaluation
To ensure that you acquire adequate knowledge and develop your technical skills, your performance will be monitored carefully during the course of your program training. You will be evaluated formally by your supervising faculty member on a regular basis and will meet with the program director to review these evaluations. In addition, you will regularly evaluate the faculty to ensure that your educational needs are being met.
