The Speech Pathology Division at Mayo Clinic evaluates and treats motor and language disorders of adults and children. They work closely with other members of the Department of Neurology and members of the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.
About 75 percent of the patients seen by speech pathologists at Mayo Clinic in Rochester are adults with acquired neuropathologies of speech and language or a wide variety of voice disorders.
However, the clinical practice also evaluates many children, ranging from preschool to adolescent, with problems that include developmental delay, specific speech and language delays, stuttering, learning disabilities and craniofacial anomalies. The practice is evenly divided between hospitalized patients and outpatients.
In addition to caring for patients in their clinical practices, Mayo Clinic's speech pathology consultants are committed to teaching and facilitating the growth of medical knowledge through mentoring fellows. Many of our faculty have published and lectured extensively and are recognized leaders in their field. You will have direct access to these individuals throughout your training program.
Advisers
All consultants in speech pathology work collectively to supervise, mentor and advise fellows. They provide comprehensive educational advice and personal support relative to career goals. The head of the Division of Speech Pathology serves as a contact point before fellows are appointed and has primary responsibility for administering the program.
Visiting Professors
Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their work during noon and/or morning lectures and participate in hospital rounds. You will be encouraged to take full advantage of these opportunities.
