Career Development

As a Mayo Clinic resident or fellow, you'll have the opportunity to participate in a broad range of educational experiences designed to enhance your knowledge and skills as well as promote the development of your career.

Career Counseling

Residents and fellows receive the benefits of mentoring with a member of the Mayo consulting staff throughout the training program. You'll meet periodically with Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education (MSGME) faculty members, administrators and your program director to discuss career goals.

Mayo Clinic recruits many of its staff physicians from its graduate medical education programs. When you successfully complete your training, job opportunities may be available at one of Mayo Clinic's group practices.

Advanced Training

You may wish to continue your education through a MSGME fellowship at the conclusion of your residency. Many areas offer multiple advanced fellowships.

Advanced degrees (M.S. or Ph.D.) in the biomedical sciences are offered through the Clinical Research Training Program. Often programs may be customized to your career goals.

Board Review Courses

Residents may participate in written self-assessment and mock oral examinations to prepare for board examinations.

Continuing Medical Education

Mayo School of Continuous Professional Development (MSCPD) offers more than 300 courses and 7,300 hours of cutting-edge continuing medical education each year. MSCPD courses are available to residents, fellows and consulting staff at no charge.
