During the Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship you will receive advanced training in all aspects of musculoskeletal radiology in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
As a musculoskeletal imaging fellow, your clinical time will include the following rotations:
- Musculoskeletal MRI/CT
- Bone radiography
- Musculoskeletal interventional procedures
- Spine imaging and intervention
- Electives in other areas as desired
During the Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship, you will participate in the following monthly conferences:
- Interdisciplinary Foot and Ankle Radiology-Orthopedics
- Interdisciplinary Orthopedic-Oncology-Radiology-Pathology
- Intradepartmental Musculoskeletal Interesting Case
- Intradepartmental Musculoskeletal Radiology- Surgical Correlation
In addition, there are multiple conferences in other radiology subspecialty areas in which you can participate.
The department will fund registration and travel expenses for attendance at one domestic radiology meeting of your choosing, with approval from the program director.
Our Musculoskeletal Imaging Section is actively involved in clinical research and has won awards for its research projects at national meetings. You will be expected to participate in one or more projects with the staff during your training and be given 20 percent academic time to fulfill this expectation. The department will fund presentation of this research at national and regional meetings.
Publication of research in peer-reviewed journals is encouraged.
You will have the opportunity to teach other radiology trainees and staff, as well as residents and staff from other departments who rotate through and interact with the Radiology Department.
You will be responsible for a total of five weeks of call during the fellowship. Mayo Clinic follows the recommendations of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
To ensure that you acquire adequate knowledge and develop your technical skills, your performance will be monitored carefully during the course of your fellowship. Your supervising faculty will evaluate you formally on a quarterly basis. In addition, you will regularly evaluate the faculty to ensure that your educational needs are being met.
