Director's Welcome
Welcome to the Mayo Clinic Pathology Residency Program! We offer a dynamic training program that will prepare you for a very successful career in pathology, regardless of whether you ultimately choose an academic or a community practice setting.
Our residents have the benefit of training in an integrated department (laboratory medicine and anatomic pathology) with an integrated AP/CP curriculum. Anatomic pathology and all of the various laboratories provide access to and experience with a very high volume of material which includes the full spectrum of basic, "bread and butter" cases as well as an unparalleled level of exposure to complex subspecialty material and faculty expertise.
Our program offers a great degree of flexibility in our curriculum, allowing for optimal diversification based on one's subspecialty interests and career goals. We also have a large number of fellowship opportunities to further enhance your training, including: General Surgical Pathology, Bone/Soft Tissue Pathology, Cytopathology, Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Pathology, Pulmonary Pathology, Cardiovascular Pathology, Neuropathology, Dermatopathology, Hematopathology, Transfusion Medicine, Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, Molecular Genetic Pathology, Clinical Biochemical Genetics, Clinical Molecular Genetics, and Clinical Cytogenetics.
Graduates of our residency program are highly competitive and sought after for both fellowship and job opportunities. We currently have about a 50:50 mix of graduates from our program who are working in academic vs. community practice positions, which is further testament to our balanced and flexible curriculum.
The outstanding reputation of the Mayo Clinic is evident in all aspects of the numerous residencies and fellowships offered here. The atmosphere is both professional and collegial and we also benefit substantially from a "teamwork" mentality and outstanding support staff.
In short, we provide a unique training environment powered by exceptional people and incomparable resources. Thank you for your interest in our program
Enthusiastically yours,
Marie-Christine Aubry, M.D.
