During the Advanced Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship, you participate in all aspects of patient care and are expected to function independently in routine surgical cases, including preoperative and postoperative care of patients.
You participate in departmental conferences, seminars, journal club and multidisciplinary conferences throughout the academic year. You also coordinate and present conferences, including Otolaryngology Grand Rounds.
You are encouraged to participate in research projects and are expected to present at regional and national meetings. You also are encouraged to participate in manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
You are encouraged to participate in committees within Mayo Clinic pertaining to education.
You meet periodically with the program director to discuss your individual goals and receive ongoing support for future career development.
To ensure you gain proficiency and develop the corresponding technical skills, your performance is monitored throughout the Advanced Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship. You are formally evaluated by your supervising faculty member after completing each clinical rotation. Then, you meet with the program director to review the evaluations. In addition, you regularly evaluate the faculty to ensure your educational goals are being met.
