Application Process


One two-year retina fellowship position is available each year in the Retinal Vitreous Surgery Fellowship on a competitive basis.

How to Apply

Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education (MSGME) does not process printed applications to this program.  To apply, please refer to the SFMatch web site to register for the match and read about the new process for applying to Ophthalmology Fellowship training.

Applications for the fellowship should be completed by early-September, approximately 10 months in advance of the program start date. The academic year begins in early July.

To apply:
Step 1: Complete the fellowship match registration with the San Francisco Matching Program.

Step 2: Complete the SFMatch application.

Step 3: Send the documents requested by Mayo Clinic to:

If you are considered for an appointment, you will be asked to visit Mayo Clinic for an interview with the program director and selected faculty. Interviews are conducted approximately six months in advance of the appointment. During the interview, the applicant will have an opportunity to meet residents and postgraduate fellows as well as the consultants of the retina and vitreous service, selected members of the departmental Education Committee and other staff members who are intimately involved in the training of the postgraduate fellow.
