This is an exciting time to embark on a career in internal medicine. The type of training you receive in internal medicine predicts the quality and value with which you will practice medicine throughout your career. The emphasis on providing high-value, cost-conscious care in an environment that is conducive to trainee wellness has revolutionized our approach to training.

A focus on evidence-based medicine allows us to critically appraise diagnostic and treatment options. Meanwhile, it has never been more important to reflect on our ability to provide cost-effective care to an aging population and in today's health care environment. Additionally, trainee wellness is a top priority for our program, as we want to build a culture that allows everyone to thrive in the training program.

Mayo Clinic prides itself on a strong commitment to medical education while providing compassionate care to every patient it serves. Our emblem, the Mayo Clinic "triple shield," symbolizes the three key areas of our focus: education, patient care and research. As a member of our Internal Medicine Residency, you are joining a team of professionals who are dedicated to discovery and lifelong learning that is motivated by the promise to provide the highest quality medical care.

By carefully reviewing this website, you will learn about the structure of our program and our training environment. Those who visit our department quickly notice the dedication of our faculty and the spirit of our residents. This is a group that people want to join and emulate.
