Department and Faculty

The Palliative Medicine clinical and academic programs are based within the Division of General Internal Medicine and the Department of Medicine at Mayo Clinic Rochester. However, the Hospice and Palliative Medicine (HPM) specialists who make up our HPM faculty come from several different departments and divisions, including the Departments of Internal Medicine, Oncology, Family Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Psychiatry. Other faculty vital to our educational endeavor include faculty in Pain-Anesthesia, Geriatrics, Ethics, Radiation Oncology, and Pediatrics, as well as the faculty and clinicians at Mayo Hospice.

Faculty
Each faculty member is committed to patient care, research and education in his or her daily practice. Our consultants conduct daily bedside teaching rounds and are available to give advice or assistance.

Advisors and Mentors
You will be assigned a faculty advisor who can provide comprehensive educational advice and personal support. Your advisor also will serve as a contact point, introducing you and your family to Rochester and the Mayo Clinic system. Additional mentors will be assigned on an as needed basis to meet your academic needs, according to your area(s) of interest.

Visiting Professors
Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their work during noon and/or morning lectures and participate in hospital rounds. You will be encouraged to take full advantage of these opportunities.
