Curriculum
Clinical training
The Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Arizona has a strong clinical emphasis. Longitudinal clinical experiences include a weekly geriatric continuity clinic and monthly skilled nursing facility visits. Training includes experiences in:
- Ambulatory practice
- Inpatient and consultative practice
- Hospice
- Palliative medicine
- Geriatric psychiatry
- Behavioral neurology
- Long-term and subacute care
You will also have opportunities to rotate through several subspecialty areas.
Didactic training
Didactics include:
- A bi-monthly geriatric medicine core curriculum series
- Weekly geriatric research lectures sponsored by the Kogod Center on Aging at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
- Internal Medicine Grand Rounds
- Monthly evidence-based MERIT conferences
- Morbidity and mortality conferences
- Journal club
You will also have the opportunity to engage in training at Mayo Clinic's state-of-the-art simulation center.

Research training
You will have the opportunity to complete one or more research projects with the help of an assigned mentor within your areas of interest. You will also have access to conferences and online research courses to enhance your background in research.

Evaluation
To ensure that you acquire adequate knowledge and develop your technical skills, your performance will be monitored carefully during the course of your fellowship. You will be evaluated formally by your supervising faculty member after each clinical rotation and will meet with the program director to review these evaluations. In addition, you will regularly evaluate the faculty and the fellowship.
