Curriculum

The fellow is responsible for performing and interpreting echocardiographic studies with the responsible consultant. Regular teaching sessions will be given by staff echocardiography consultants.

A typical schedule in the Echocardiography Fellowship Program includes the following:

  • Two to three days per week, the fellow is training in procedures in the Echocardiography Laboratory. The fellow is expected to perform an echocardiographic examination on each patient coming to the Echocardiography Laboratory. The fellow is expected to interpret the results of the procedure and enter these results into a computer format.
  • Two to three days per week, the fellow is expected to pursue clinical research in the area of echocardiography.

Didactic Training

Clinical conferences, seminars, small discussion groups, journal clubs and one-on-one instruction are integral parts of this fellowship.

Research Training

You are required to conduct some type of scholarly activity during your fellowship.

Call Frequency

There are no requirements for call.

Evaluation

To ensure that you acquire adequate knowledge and develop your technical skills, your performance will be monitored carefully during the course of your program training. You will be evaluated formally by your supervising faculty member and will meet with the program director to review these evaluations. In addition, you will regularly evaluate the faculty to ensure that your educational needs are being met.
