Cardiology, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship (Minnesota)

Program description

The Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship is designed to provide intensive experience and training in the evaluation and treatment of patients with Advanced Heart Failure. The Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant fellow plays an integral role in the management of a wide pathologic spectrum of clinical heart failure, to include initial diagnostic evaluation, chronic management strategies, high-risk cardiac surgical and percutaneous interventions, cardiac transplantation, mechanical circulatory device therapy and end-of-life care and management. This one-year program includes exposure to clinical research in the field of heart failure and cardiac transplantation.

This fellowship provides clinical training in the evaluation and management of patients with heart failure, evaluation and management of patients requiring cardiac transplantation and mechanical circulatory device therapy and provides opportunity for clinical investigation in the area of heart failure.

This fellowship is an ACGME-accredited training program and meets the training requirements for Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology certification. With the addition of focused cardiac transplantation experience, to include observation of organ procurement, completion of this program meets requirements for UNOS certification as a heart transplant physician.
