Program Description
The four-year Radiation Oncology Residency Program at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville is designed to prepare physicians for a career in Radiation Oncology.  The objective of the residency program is to educate and train physicians to be skillful in the practice of radiation oncology, and to be caring and compassionate in the treatment of patients.  At the completion of the program, physicians are ready for the demands of private practice, academic practice, or a fellowship program.

In accordance with the American Board of Radiology (ABR) for board eligibility, Mayo requires successful completion of a clinical year in the United States prior to commencing its four-year Radiation Oncology Residency Program.

Radiation therapy is an integral component in the successful management and treatment of cancer, which usually involves surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or a combination.

Mayo Clinic continues to be innovative and set the standard in patient evaluation and management, as well as technical delivery of radiotherapy. New techniques include:

  • New methods of patient immobilization allowing body stereotactic treatment
  • The development of computer technology that permits the delivery of three-dimensional conformal and intensity-modulated radiation therapy
  • Rapid, fully automated multi-field treatment
  • Respiratory gated treatments
