Mayo Clinic's Division of Radiation Oncology in Rochester, Minn.
uses the most sophisticated technology available and employs expert
personnel to deliver radiation therapy. Care providers within the
Division of Radiation Oncology care for more than 1,900 patients
with malignant diseases each year. Each radiation oncologists at
Mayo Clinic specialize in treating two or three types of cancer.
This specialization ensures that even patients with rare cancers
receive care from someone who is highly skilled at treating their
specific condition.
The department offers the full spectrum of radiation therapy modalities,
including:
- External beam radiation therapy
- High energy photon and electron beam radiation
- Stereotactic radiosurgery
- Brachytherapy
In addition, the department offers more than 50 cancer clinical
studies each year. Protocols are available for brain, breast, head
and neck, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecologic, lung cancers,
lymphoma, melanoma and sarcoma.
Faculty
The faculty involved in the Radiation Oncology Medical
Physics Residency include Ph.D. and M.S. medical physicists, who
collectively have a wealth of experience in every aspect of radiation
oncology medical physics. Areas of expertise include all areas of
clinical practice and basic and applied research, education and
professional activity, as demonstrated through leadership in national
organizations, the certification and peer-review process and educational
involvement.
Advisors and Mentors
You will be assigned a faculty advisor and mentors throughout this
fellowship. These individuals will serve as contact points, introducing
you and your family to Rochester and the Mayo Clinic system.
Visiting Professors
Prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their
work during morning and late afternoon lectures. Fellows are encouraged
to take full advantage of these opportunities to interact with these
experts.
