and interpretation of MRI, computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound
(US) examinations, as they are applied to investigate diseases.

Rotations
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
You will interpret a wide variety of cases, with more than 16,000
clinical MRI examinations performed annually. You will learn to
optimize MR image quality and select appropriate protocols for clinical
problem solving. You will be exposed to, and help develop, advanced
sequences, including functional MR, parallel imaging, EXCITE technology,
diffusion imaging and MR angiography, as well as newer contrast
agents.
Computed Tomography
You will expand and refine basic skills acquired as a resident,
with exposure to over 31,000 body CT examinations annually. Your
training will include experience with CT colonography, CT angiography,
CT perfusion, HRCT , CT coronary artery angiography and calcium
screen. You also will gain familiarity with CT 3D reconstruction
and advanced post-processing techniques on Leonardo and GE Advantage
workstations.
Ultrasound
With more than 21,000 US examinations performed annually at Mayo
Clinic in Scottsdale , you will learn to image and interpret a broad
range of cases. You will become adept with CT and US intervention,
with exposure to more than 3,200 imaging guided interventional procedures
performed annually.
Didactic Training
Clinical conferences, seminars and one-on-one instruction are all
an integral part of the MRI/Cross-Sectional Imaging Fellowship.
Videotaped daily conferences from Mayo Clinic in Rochester are readily
available.
You will participate in weekly radiology case conferences and formal
lecture presentations. In addition, you will present at these conferences
on a rotating basis with the consultant staff. You also will be
involved in the weekly Hepatology Conference and a monthly Body
MRI Review Conference.
Complete audiovisual facilities, including computerized slide capabilities,
are available to help you prepare your educational presentations.
The department will fund registration and travel expenses for attendance
at one domestic radiology meeting of your choosing, with approval
from the program director.
Research Training
Your research opportunities at Mayo are outstanding. You
are encouraged to participate in research projects with the consulting
staff. These research projects are primarily clinical-based projects.
During the fellowship, you will be encouraged to participate in
the development of a manuscript suitable for presentation. Publication
of research in peer-reviewed journals is also encouraged.
Case Studies
During your training you will be encouraged to prepare case study
presentations as part of the weekly faculty conference. In those
case studies, you will present the pertinent information of an interesting
case and conduct an in-depth discussion.
Teaching Opportunities
You will have the opportunity to teach radiology residents, as well
as residents from other departments who rotate through the Radiology
Department.
Evaluation
To ensure that you acquire adequate knowledge and develop your technical
skills, your performance will be monitored carefully during the
course of your fellowship. You will be evaluated formally by your
supervising faculty member after each clinical rotation. In addition,
you will regularly evaluate the faculty to ensure that your educational
needs are being met.
Call Frequency
You will be responsible for a total of four weeks of call during
the fellowship. Mayo Clinic follows the related recommendations
of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
