Rotations
Nuclear Medicine
You will interpret PET and PET/CT studies, and understand the
strengths and limitations of PET in the evaluation of the oncology
patient.
You will have one-on-one didactic and practical training with
faculty who have board certification in both diagnostic radiology
and nuclear medicine. You will learn and understand the rules
for reimbursement of PET imaging studies by Medicare, which is
essential knowledge for establishing a successful PET/CT practice
after graduation.
You will also further your ability to interpret a wide variety
of other nuclear imaging studies.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
You will interpret a wide variety of cases, with more than 16,000
clinical MRI examinations performed annually at Mayo Clinic in
Scottsdale . You will learn to optimize MR image quality and select
appropriate protocols for clinical problem solving.
In addition, you will be exposed to and help develop advanced
sequences, including functional MR, parallel imaging, EXCITE technology,
diffusion imaging and MRA, as well as newer contrast agents.
Computed Tomography
You will expand and refine basic skills acquired as you are exposed
to many of the 31,000+ body CT examinations performed annually
at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale . Your training will include experience
with CT colonography, CT angiography, CT perfusion, HRCT (high
resolution computed tomography), CT coronary artery angiography
and calcium screen, as well as familiarity with CT 3D reconstruction
and advanced post-processing techniques on Leonardo and GE Advantage
workstations.
Ultrasound
You will learn to image and interpret a broad range of cases.
There are more than 21,000 ultrasound examinations performed annually
at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale . You will also become adept with
CT and ultrasound intervention. There are more than 3,200 imaging
guided interventional procedures performed annually at Mayo Clinic
in Scottsdale.
Didactic Training
Clinical conferences, seminars and one-on-one instruction are all
an integral part of the PET/CT Imaging Fellowship. Videotaped daily
conferences from Mayo Clinic in Rochester are readily available.
There are weekly radiology case conferences and formal lecture
presentations, which you will present on a rotating basis with the
consultant staff.
Complete audiovisual facilities, including computerized slide capabilities,
are available to help you prepare your educational presentations.
The department will fund registration and travel expenses for attendance
at one domestic radiology meeting of your choosing, with approval
from the program director.
Research Training
Your research opportunities at Mayo Clinic are outstanding. You
will participate in primarily clinical-based research projects with
the consulting staff.
During the fellowship, you will be encouraged to participate in
the development of a manuscript suitable for presentation. Publication
of research in peer-reviewed journals is encouraged.
Case Studies

presentations as part of the weekly faculty conference. In those
case studies, you will present the pertinent information of an interesting
case and conduct an in-depth discussion of that case.
Teaching Opportunities
You will have the opportunity to teach radiology residents, as well
as residents from other departments who rotate through the Radiology
Department.
Call Frequency
Your call schedule will vary by individual rotation. Mayo Clinic
follows the recommendations of the Accreditation Council for Graduate
