During the Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship you will receive
advanced training in all aspects of musculoskeletal radiology in
both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Clinical Training
As a musculoskeletal imaging fellow, your clinical time will include
the following rotations:
- Musculoskeletal MRI/CT (40 percent)
- Bone radiography (30 percent)
- Musculoskeletal interventional procedures (20
percent)
- The remaining time will be devoted to research
activities
Didactic Training
During the Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship, you will participate
in the following monthly conferences:
- Interdisciplinary Foot and Ankle Radiology-Orthopedics
- Interdisciplinary Orthopedic-Oncology-Radiology-Pathology
- Intradepartmental Musculoskeletal Interesting
Case
- Intradepartmental Musculoskeletal Radiology-
Surgical Correlation
In addition, there are multiple conferences in other radiology
subspecialty areas in which you can participate.
The department will fund registration and travel expenses for attendance
at one domestic radiology meeting of your choosing, with approval
from the program director.
Research Training
Our Musculoskeletal Imaging Section is actively involved in clinical
research and has recently won several awards for its research projects
at national meetings. You will be expected to participate in one
or more projects with the staff during your training and be given
up to 10 percent academic time to fulfill this expectation. The
department will fund presentation of this research at national and
regional meetings.
Publication of research in peer-reviewed journals is encouraged.
Teaching Opportunities
You will have the opportunity to teach radiology residents, as well
as residents from other departments who rotate through the Radiology
Department.
Call Frequency
Your call schedule will vary by individual rotation. Mayo Clinic
follows the recommendations of the Accreditation Council for Graduate
Medical Education (ACGME).
Evaluation
To ensure that you acquire adequate knowledge and develop your technical
skills, your performance will be monitored carefully during the
course of your fellowship. Your supervising faculty will evaluate
you formally on a quarterly basis. In addition, you will regularly
evaluate the faculty to ensure that your educational needs are being
met.
