Mayo Clinic radiologists and staff provide the highest quality
diagnostic and interventional imaging services in a caring and efficient
manner, while sustaining outstanding programs in research and education.
This 100 year-old department – one of the first of its kind – is
fully integrated with all the medical services available at the
Mayo Clinic. More than 130 radiologists and physicists cooperate
with more than 1,000 support staff to provide diagnostic and therapeutic
radiology services to patients.
Experts in all areas of radiology consult with specialists in other
departments to "provide the best care to every patient every
day." Radiologists work with state-of-the-art equipment, assisted
by skilled technologists and nurses, to perform and interpret more
than 900,000 examinations yearly. This large number of cases, integrated
with ongoing research and education, results in wide-ranging expertise
in the imaging and treatment of diseases affecting patients of all
ages.
The Radiology Informatics Lab is a state-of-the art electronic
research lab with a fully functional radiology information system
(RIS) and picture archiving and communications systems (PACS). These
are dedicated to the Radiology Informatics Laboratory (RIL) and
can be configured to support specific research efforts. There are
also several workstations with access to a variety of image processing
tools. The laboratory hosts some clinical trial evaluations.
Faculty
In addition to caring for patients in their clinical practices,
Mayo Clinic's faculty members are committed to teaching and facilitating
the growth of medical knowledge. Many of our faculty have published
and lectured extensively and are recognized leaders in their field.
You will have direct access to these individuals throughout your
training program.
Advisors
You will be assigned a faculty adviser who can provide comprehensive
educational advice and personal support. Your adviser also will
serve as a contact point, introducing you and your family to Rochester
and the Mayo Clinic system.
Visiting Professors
Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year.
They present their work during noon and/or morning lectures and
participate in hospital rounds. You will be encouraged to take full
advantage of these opportunities.
