Program Description
This two-year training program in clinical diagnostic medical physics is open to any individual who recently received a doctoral degree in medical physics, physics or engineering. The objectives of this program are twofold:

  • Provide broad training and experience for those who wish to pursue careers in clinical diagnostic imaging.
  • Provide a strong academic component for candidates who wish to follow a more academic path.

The program normally begins on July 1. It is structured to provide general training in diagnostic imaging modalities, including general X-ray, fluoroscopy, angiography, mammography, US, CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, PET and informatics.  Additional specialized training, research and teaching opportunities will also be offered. 

A three-month rotation to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida or Scottsdale, Arizona is also available.

Certification
This program provides two years of specialized training required for eligibility for the American Board of Radiology certification in Diagnostic Radiology Physics.

Program History
The Medical Physics Residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester began in 1990.  Residents complete training in the program every even year.
