Positions
Typically, there are nine positions available in Mayo Clinic's Psychiatry Residency Program each year on a competitive basis.

Appointments at the PGY-1 level are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Mayo Clinic also considers candidates who are eligible for admission outside the NRMP.

How to Apply
Applications for each academic year should be completed by November 30 of the year preceding the program start date. All candidates must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Step 1: Through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), submit the following via your medical school:

  • Official graduate school and medical school transcripts
  • Official test transcripts for all applicable examinations (USMLE*, LMCC, COMLEX, NBOME, FMGEMS, FLEX or NBME)
  • A dean's letter and two other letters of recommendation
  • A curriculum vitae
  • A personal statement
  • A valid ECFMG certificate (if you graduated from medical school outside of the United States or Canada)

* USMLE scores must be provided with the application in order to be considered.

Please note that paper applications can not be accepted.

International medical graduates should contact the ECFMG for information and instructions on how to apply using ERAS.

Step 2: Appointments for PGY-1 positions are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). All PGY-1 candidates must register through the NRMP.

To register see: National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

Step 3: If you are considered for an appointment, you will be asked to visit Mayo Clinic in Rochester for an interview with the program director and selected faculty.

Interviews are conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the months of December and January. If selected for an interview, applicants will be notified by an e-mail and a letter mailed to the address they provide on their application.
