Program Description
Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville offers a two-year postdoctoral program for advanced training in Clinical Neuropsychology. The fellowship offers supervised clinical activities, neuropsychological research, didactic experiences and individual study.
Clinical Neuropsychology fellows receive exposure to diagnosis and treatment of a variety of adult neurocognitive disorders. Our program features clinical evaluation opportunities in behavioral neurology and medical neuropsychology. Populations include aging and dementia, movement disorders, cerebrovascular disorders, epilepsy, transplant, neuro-oncology, autoimmune disorders, and other complex medical illnesses that involve neurocognitive or behavioral syndromes.
Elective training experiences are available in psychological evaluation, psychotherapy, rehabilitation psychology, and behavioral medicine techniques involving both neurological and general medical patients. Rotations in non-psychology specialties such as sleep disorders, neurophysiology, movement disorders and behavioral neurology are also available.
Research and didactic experiences also comprise a large part of the fellowship experience.
Program History
The Clinical Neuropsychology Fellowship Program at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville began in 1995. Since that time, five trainees have completed their training in this program (one fellow completes the program every two years). Our former fellows have gone on to secure positions in academic departments, medical centers and industry.
Accreditation
The Clinical Neuropsychology Fellowship is a member program of the Association of Postdoctoral Programs in Clinical Neuropsychology (APPCN). APPCN does not accredit postdoctoral programs, but has developed training standards and a code of conduct for affiliated programs.
APPCN supports and consults with the Committee on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association regarding the development of specialty standards for training in clinical neuropsychology.
