Program Description
The Mayo Clinic four-year Prosthodontics Residency Program will prepare you for a career in private practice or academic dentistry.
You will receive intensive training in the following areas:
- Fixed prosthodontics
- Removable prosthodontic
- Implant prosthodontics
- Maxillofacial prosthetics
Mayo's program is unique because of its small size, flexible curriculum, dedicated staff and excellent rapport with other medical and surgical specialties. Although the emphasis is on clinical practice, the program also includes an extensive didactic program and research training.
You will receive exposure to the entire spectrum of dental treatment and total patient care as 15 of the program's 16 quarters are devoted to dental, medical and surgical specialties.
In this residency you will have training in:
- Anatomy
- Biostatistics
- Dental materials
- Dental laboratory techniques
- Orofacial pain
- Medical oncology
- Oral diagnosis
- Otorhinolaryngologic surgery
- Radiation oncology
These rotations will emphasize clinical and radiographic interpretation, the care of surgical patients and interdisciplinary treatment for patients undergoing radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
Program and Graduate Outcomes
All of the residents who have trained in the Mayo Clinic Prosthodontics Residency Program over the past decade are actively involved in prosthodontic patient care and many maintain academic affiliations. Graduates from the program have successfully completed the portion of the American Board of Prosthodontics examination for which they were eligible.
Accreditation
The program is accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.
Certification
The program fulfills the educational requirements for examination by the American Board of Prosthodontics.
Program History
The Prosthodontic Residency began in 1966, and since that time, more than 24 physicians have completed training. It is anticipated that one fellow will complete training in this program every other year.
