What attracted you to medicine and anesthesiology?
As a medical student I was exposed to the high acuity care provided by anesthesiologists not only in the operating room but also in the critical care and labor and delivery settings. It then became my interest to learn the art of resuscitation, and strong, calm leadership skills in the field of Anesthesia.
What attracted you to Mayo Clinic for residency training?
Mayo’s anesthesia program has residents who perform well both in clinical settings as well as academic venues such as written and oral board exams. The Mayo anesthesia residents I met during my interview seemed genuinely happy with the program and went out of their way to welcome me. The residency’s stellar credentials, the residents and staff I met, and the safe, easy going lifestyle in Rochester made Mayo my first choice.
What makes the Mayo Clinic Anesthesiology Residency unique?
Anything surprise you about Mayo's program?
What makes our residency program unique is its strong tradition of clinical educators and talented residents together with our program director who facilitates the seamless function of all resident rotations and educational activities. Mayo Clinic itself is an impressive model for skillful and compassionate patient care which has made a lasting impression on me.
What is living in Rochester like for you?
Rochester is a safe, small Midwestern city that has spoiled me with short commute times and a low cost of living. It is highlighted by the music arts, fitness venues, and a good variety of restaurants and a farmer’s market.
What does your future look like right now?
After my residency, I will begin a fellowship in cardiovascular anesthesia at Mayo Clinic next year. I have had many wonderful teachers along the way, and I feel that I have been well prepared to enter the practice of anesthesia.
