Program: Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Mayo Clinic Rochester
Hometown:
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Medical School:
University of Ottawa, Ontario

What attracted you to gastroenterology?
"I was drawn to gastroenterology because it is a dynamic and exciting field. I am grateful for the opportunity to treat both acute and chronic medical conditions in a very diverse patient population.  My passion for diseases of the liver, in particular, stems from my interest in physiology and public health."

What attracted you to Mayo Clinic for fellowship training?
"Mayo Clinic is a world renowned authority in the area of gastroenterology and hepatology. The contributions that this institution has made to the field cannot be over-stated. It is a privilege for me to work with faculty who, in addition to being leaders in their field, have a passion for teaching and exemplary patient care."

What makes the Mayo Clinic Gastroenterology Fellowship unique?
"This fellowship is unique in that trainees are exposed to cutting-edge clinical medicine and research. In addition, trainees receive the perfect balance between autonomy and teaching.  Because of its reputation, Mayo Clinic also attracts patients with relatively uncommon gastrointestinal diseases; thus one can cultivate a rich clinical experience during fellowship."

Anything surprise you about Mayo's program?
"I was pleasantly surprised at how kind and approachable staff and colleagues are at Mayo Clinic.  There is an outstanding atmosphere of collegiality and dedication here; and I think that’s why the clinic is so successful on so many levels."

What is living in Rochester like for you?
"The best thing about Rochester is the people. Everyone I have met, either at work or outside of the clinic, are sincere and friendly. I also appreciate the lack of traffic."

What does your future look like right now?
"I am excited about starting my career after my fellowship at Mayo; and I hope to continue to make contributions to the field through clinical practice, teaching and research. In my opinion, the quality of education and clinical experience I have received at Mayo Clinic will more than adequately prepare me for a successful career."
