Program Description
Mayo Clinic in Rochester offers a Preventive Medicine Fellowship Program to train physicians for specialization in general preventive medicine and public health. This 24-month program is designed to prepare physicians for leadership roles in academic preventive medicine, clinical preventive medicine, health-care management, clinical epidemiology and public health at the federal, state or local level. Our program offers:

Year One:
MPH Training at the University of Minnesota

Year Two:

Core rotations

  • Breast Clinic
  • Cardiovascular Clinic
  • Endocrine Clinic
  • Environmental Safety
  • Health Communications
  • Nicotine Dependence Center
  • Nutrition Clinic
  • Olmsted County Public Health Department
  • Pain Rehabilitation Clinic
  • Patient Education Center
  • Quality Improvement
  • Ramsey County Public Health Department

As well as:

  • Elective rotations
  • Research rotations

Accreditation and Certification
The Preventive Medicine training program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and leads to eligibility for certification from the American Board Preventive Medicine.

Program History
The Preventive Medicine training program began in 1978, and since that time more than 30 physicians have completed training. It is anticipated that two to three fellows will complete training in this program annually.
