Our goal is that each DPAM residency graduate will . . .
- Demonstrate clinical competency, including critical thinking and the effective use of subspecialty consultations.
- Secure his/her first choice of primary care or fellowship position.
- Be prepared to succeed as an academic pediatric generalist or subspecialist.
- Integrate the principles of lifelong learning into his/her work, including incorporation of evidence-based medicine.
- Demonstrate the ability to work within and lead an effective health care team.
- Communicate with patients and families in a way that is clear, respectful, and reflects his/her dedication to their care.
- Teach with enthusiasm and demonstrate a commitment to serve as mentor to others.
- Pass the American Board of Pediatrics specialty examination on his/her first attempt within one year of completing residency.
Additional Residency Requirements
(in addition to competencies defined by the program director)
- Every resident will pass USMLE Step III by the end of the PL-1 year.
- Every resident will take the in-service training exam annually.
- Each resident will secure his/her state licensure by the end of PL-1 year (for U.S. medical graduates) and the end of PL-2 year (for foreign medical graduates).
- Residents will attend 70% of the required conferences.
- Every resident must present (during their training program) evidence of a scholarly work (abstract, poster presentation, review article, original research) suitable for publication.
