Mayo Clinic's Division of Medical Oncology and Department of Internal Medicine are committed to providing the highest quality care to individual patients and families.
Internal Medicine (referred to as the Department of Medicine at Mayo) is the largest clinical department at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. It comprises more than 590 full-time physicians, 350 residents and fellows and approximately 1,700 allied health personnel distributed over 12 divisions.
Many Internal Medicine physicians have been elected to prestigious societies such as the American Society of Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians; serve as leaders of subspecialty and specialty organizations; are editors of prestigious journals; and conduct important research. Six divisions in the department have consistently ranked among the top three in the U.S. News & World Report National Top 10 Specialty Rankings of medical centers.
The Department of Oncology has one of the largest, most comprehensive cancer diagnosis and treatment programs in the world. It includes more than 50 oncologists and allied health professionals specializing in medical oncology.
Each year more than 13,000 patients are diagnosed with 200+ different types of cancer and receive treatment through the department. Adults with cancer of the colon and rectum, breast, prostate, and lung comprise the largest number of patients. The department also has unique strengths and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors, sarcomas, melanoma, kidney cancer, ovarian cancer, hepatoma, biliary cancer, pancreatic cancer, and neuroendocrine cancers.

Our graduate education mentor system is designed to provide you with comprehensive educational advice and personal support. You will be assigned a faculty mentor who will serve as contact persons, introducing you and your family to Rochester and the Mayo Clinic system.
Visiting Professors
Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their work at noon and/or morning lectures and participate in hospital rounds. You are encouraged to take full advantage of these opportunities.
Facilities
The Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, Minn., includes two hospitals with more than 1,800 beds, a Level One Trauma Center, a comprehensive outpatient medical complex, a variety of research facilities, and several full-service laboratories and on-site pharmacies. Nearly 1,600 staff physicians represent virtually all clinical specialties.
Mayo Clinic in Rochester utilizes leading-edge technology and equipment. You will learn to properly use this technology for the benefit of your patients. Your training will emphasize compassionate patient care using the most cost-effective means.
