Program Description
The Otolaryngology Residency Program at Mayo Clinic in Arizona provides superior surgical and medical training, which features a unique mentorship/apprenticeship system.
This five-year residency prepares you for either private practice or academic medicine by learning with a board-certified staff that teaches management concepts in:
- Otology
- Rhinology
- Laryngology
- Endoscopy
- Pediatric otolaryngology
- Head and neck trauma
- Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery
- Head and neck oncology
This residency uses a unique apprenticeship system, in which residents are assigned to one or two staff consultants for three-month periods. This system allows the resident graduated responsibility and close supervision and interaction. The final year you will be a chief resident associate having complete responsibility for your own clinic and operative cases.
You will be trained in all areas of otolaryngology head and neck surgery during this residency.
Accreditation
The Otolaryngology Residency is accredited by the American Council of Graduate Medical Education.
Certifications
When you successfully complete the Otolaryngology Residency Program, you will be able to take the Otolaryngology Certification Exam offered by the American Board of Otolaryngology.
Program History
Created in 1987, the department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Mayo Clinic Arizona has matured into a Head and Neck tertiary care referral center in the southwest.
The Otolaryngology Residency Program at Mayo Clinic in Arizona began July 1, 2006. It is anticipated that two trainees will complete this program annually.
