Program Description
The Adult Upper Extremity Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship is designed to provide you with exposure to a large volume and variety of reconstructive and traumatic surgical problems involving the shoulder and elbow. Seven full-time faculty members participate in the program.
The fellowship includes four three-month rotations on surgery services: two focusing on shoulder reconstruction, one focusing on elbow reconstruction, and one focusing on arthroscopic treatment of shoulder and elbow problems. You will perform preoperative consultations and participate actively in surgical procedures and postoperative patient management. In addition, you will be active in conferences and in the development of clinical research projects, using Mayo’s carefully monitored patient registries. The program is designed to provide flexibility in achieving your career goals.
Accreditation
The training program fulfills the requirements for training as stated by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education through the Residency Review Committee for Orthopedic Surgery.
Program History
The Adult Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship began in 1972, and since that time, more than 70 physicians have completed training. It is anticipated that one or two fellows will complete training in this program annually.
