During the Foot and Ankle Surgery Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Florida, you will gain the skills and experience necessary to independently evaluate and treat complex problems of the foot and ankle. You will be involved in clinical decision-making and surgery and have ample opportunities to develop your surgical, clinical and problem-solving skills.
Clinical Training
Your training will provide you experience with a variety of techniques, which will help you develop your own approach and give you the confidence needed to handle the unique problems you will encounter in your own clinical practice. In order to provide you with continued experience in general orthopedics and board preparation, a number of hip fractures, total hips and total knee replacements, including revisions, will be done throughout the year.
Didactic Training
Clinical conferences, seminars, small discussion groups, a journal club and one-on-one instruction are all integral parts of the program.
Research Training
Mayo Clinic offers outstanding opportunities for you to conduct basic scientific or clinical research. During the fellowship, you are required to work on several research projects. You also will participate in the development of manuscripts suitable for presentation at national and international meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Call Frequency
You will rotate call with all the general orthopedics surgeons and be on approximately one of every eight days.
Evaluation
To ensure that you acquire adequate knowledge and develop your technical skills, your performance will be monitored carefully during the course of your fellowship. You will be evaluated formally by the Director of the Fellowship Program to ensure that your educational needs are being met.
